WM: Madera recap, Stockton preview

WESTERN MIDGETS RETURN TO STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY SATURDAY; KODY SWANSON WINS "FRED GERHARDT OPEN WHEEL CLASSIC" 100

Billy Wease and Tony Hunt are anxious to return to Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway Saturday for USAC's first race at the track in nearly three years. They won the last USAC Midget races there in 2006.

Wease finished third and Hunt sixth in Saturday night's 100-lap "Fred Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic" at Madera (Calif.) Speedway, won by Kody Swanson.

Swanson, of Kingsburg, Calif., captured Saturday night's "Gerhardt Classic" USAC/BCRA Midget race at Madera, passing teammate and defending race winner Wease on lap 72. He led the final 29 laps in his Western Speed Gerhardt/Toyota.

Fast qualifier Bryan Clauson finished second ahead of Wease, Evan Margeson and Daniel Bedford. Scott Pierovich and Tanner Swanson led early laps before Wease took over on lap 60. Twelve laps later Swanson was in front and stayed there the rest of the way.

Saturday's Stockton program also includes USAC Western Sprint Cars and USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Midgets as the track hosts its second-ever USAC "tripleheader."
