The two Czech rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship saw Yvan Muller score a pair of 3rd place finishes for the SEAT Sport team, while both Jordi Gene and Peter Terting also scored points. An estimated crowd of 46,000 spectators packed the grandstands at the Brno circuit over the weekend and they were rewarded with two thrilling races, but the combined effects of "success ballast" and the undulating Brno track took their toll on the SEAT Sport Leon of James Thompson, who dropped to 2nd place in the Drivers' Championship after failing to score.
Despite starting from pole position, Gabriele Tarquini was outpaced to the first corner by a pair of BMWs, but was then hit by Andy Priaulx as the pair fought for 3rd place. The impact spun the Italian driver into the gravel, ending his race less than halfway through the first lap. In the confusion Yvan Muller moved into 3rd place, holding on for the remaining nine and a half laps to finish on the podium for the fourth time this season, setting the race's fastest lap in the process. Behind the Frenchman, Jordi Gene drove superbly to hold off a determined challenge from Andy Priaulx. The BMW driver continually attacked Jordi throughout the race, but the Spaniard held the reigning World Champion at bay to finish 4th and so deny Priaulx the extra point.
