SONOMA, Calif.(July 21, 2000) - Jon Field (Dublin, Ohio), owner/driver of InterSport Racing brings the team’s new Banana Joe’s Island Party Judd-powered Lola B2K/10 to the Sears Point Raceway for Round Five of 12-scheduled American Le Mans Series events. InterSport has been running in the Grand American Road Racing Series while the ALMS made appearances on the European circuits of Silverstone (England) and the Nurburgring (Germany).
Field and co-driver Rick Sutherland, of Los Gatos, Calif., will drive in the Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sears Point Raceway, a two hour 45 minute timed event beginning at noon on Sunday, July 23. The race will be telecast live on the SpeedVision network.
In last year’s inaugural ALMS season, Field, driving with Niclas Jonsson (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) on the tight, twisting 12-turn Sears Point circuit, completed only 38 of the 97 laps before gearbox problems took them out of the race. Last year and for the early part of this year, the team competed in a Lola B98 Ford-powered car.
InterSport recently acquired a brand new B2K/10 Lola Judd that is more competitive and has proven to be very reliable. In it’s maiden appearance, in basic carbon-fiber black, at the last Grand Am race at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisc., Field and co-driver Oliver Gavin (Northampton England) consistently were in the top-three until a late race spin in oil from another car took them out of podium contention.
The Lola B2K/10 now sports the traditional red, silver, and blue Banana Joe’s livery. Field said, "The only testing we’ve had time for was during the Elkhart Lake race, but we’re really happy with the car’s performance – it’s really smooth."
