David Brabham notched up his third American Le Mans Series LMP2 victory at Road America last time out and the Australian sportscar star will be aiming for more of the same as the premier series heads to Canada for round eight, the Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport, 21-24 August 2008.
Brabham, who lives in Henley on Thames in the UK, and team mate Scott Sharp head for the fastest track on the ALMS race calendar lying second in the LMP2 championship fight, chasing leaders Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas by 24 points. The Patron Highcroft Racing duo, however, hold a 42 point gap over Sascha Maassen and Patrick Long in third.
The Acura ARX-01b and the Patron Highcroft Racing team have gone from strength to strength throughout the season with the latest class win at Road America being further testament to its development programme. The third win out of the last five rounds was delivered during what was a thrilling four-hour race littered with seven safety car periods and even saw Brabham and Sharp take the outright lead, after a genius pit stop strategy, until the closing stages.
With just four rounds left, the objective for the rest of the season is clear as Brabham and Sharp aim to continue to push the Penske Porsche of Bernhard and Dumas and win each remaining round.
"The Mosport circuit is without question the fastest track on the ALMS calendar. With much of the first part of the lap flat out throughout high g-force corners, it's also a demanding race for the body and mind that literally takes your breath away. It's fantastic," said Brabs. "We'll be testing at Mosport in the days running up to the race to try out the latest development parts from Honda Performance Development and Wirth Engineering. The win at Road America proves that we have the winning combination and that everyone is doing a fantastic job. At least with testing before the event we have the opportunity to fine tune the new parts and take a good shot at clinching our fourth win of the season."
