Path Valley results 2004-08-28

Spring Run, PA_ As lightning flashed over the Tuscarora Mountain, Dane Delancey of nearby Port Royal raced to three wins on four wheelers and five for the day when the AMA Region Six bikes and quads visited the Path Valley Speedway Park Saturday night.

"Weather is always a factor, and the afternoon karts left the track hard and sealed before the storm hit us, and that rain after the karts race left the track almost perfect for the motorcycles," said Two Wheel Promotions partner John Winsett, himself a racer in the senior AMA motorcycles.

Several riders provided outstanding performances including AMA 2004 Horizon Award winner John Lewis V of Brandamore who won in both the Sportsman and 450A features. Brother and sister Shayna and Cory Texter of Willow Street won two features each, and Brandon Robinson of Oxford won both the 250B and the Schoolboy features.

The Saturday evening races were a joint meet with the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) and William Reynolds of Strasburg on his #11 Yamaha won two features and Melvin Brown of Cortland NY on an antique Triumph won two senior events. John Winsett Sr. of Bainbridge won over a field of seven riders in the over 40 years old AMA feature after grandson Dylan Winsett won the 50cc Shaft race.

Among the younger riders, Gus Lane of Perry Hall MD was thrilled with his first win in 50cc for four to six years old. Young Lane and his dad found the Path Valley bike race searching the Internet and drove three hours to Path Valley, and it paid off with the youngster's first-ever win. Northeast Nationals champion Tyler Stacey took the 50cc Seniors win and Cassidy Heiser won in 65cc while veteran Hayden Avery won the 85cc event for 7-11 year olds.

The AMA District Six tour returns to Path Valley October 9 for flattrack motorcycle and four-wheeler points races. For information on AMA racing for youngsters four to more than forty years old, prospective riders should contact John Winsett at the track or on the pathvalley.com website.

The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track is 717-349-7111.
