When the GFS Marketplace Ford Taurus hits the Springfield Mile this Saturday with Todd Bowsher at the wheel, he'll be Diggin for Dirt on the Illinois State Fairgrounds 1 mile clay racing surface.
In the past the dirt tracks have always been good to the Bowsher Team with Todd's father Jack and his brothers winning their share of races on the clay. With so much experience to build on Todd has steadily climbed up the ladder learning his way around the 1 mile dirt ovals. With a steady progression over the last few years Todd has developed his dirt track abilities with finishes of 21st, 28th and a strong 11th place finish on the mile at Springfield in 03. Bowsher is hoping to continue this pattern this week as well as at the Duquoin State Fairgrounds in Illinois in just a couple of weeks.
"Driving the dirt tracks is always fun, it just takes a few laps for it to settle in that you're not on asphalt and it's okay for the car to feel a little loose". explains Bowsher. "Coming straight off the concrete at Nashville to the Springfield Mile is a transition in itself, but it's one we're looking forward to making. The atmosphere at the Illinois State Fair and the Duquoin State Fair is pretty much a different feeling, don't get me wrong it's still dirt track racing but it's a little more casual feeling." He added, "We're ready for a little "Dirty Dancing", and looking to pick up where we left off here last year and better that 11th place finish."
The GFS Marketplace Team will be at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday August 22, for the Allen Crowe Memorial 100 on the Springfield Mile. Practice is from 9 to 10am, Pork Pole Qualifying is set to begin at 11am, with the green flag scheduled to fall at 1pm. (All times local)
