Laguna Seca Friday Qualifying

MONTEREY, Calif. - Series leader Anthony Lazzaro won the provisional pole for Saturday's KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Laguna Seca, part of the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey. Lazzaro, of Acworth, Ga., posted a time of 1:20.544 around the 2.238-mile road course to earn the provisional pole. Lazzaro is aiming for his fifth pole during Saturday's final qualifying, then will set his sights on clinching the drivers' championship with a third-place finish or better at Saturday's race. Canadian Alex Tagliani, of Lachenaie, Que., was second fastest on Friday, with a provisional qualifying time of 1:20.640. Canadian Andrew Bordin, of Woodbridge, Ont., was third-fastest at 1:20.673. Final qualifying is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Saturday's round 11 of the 12-race KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
