Brands Hatch: Robbie Kerr Racing race notes

Kerr leads championship after eventful 2nd Round.

Brands Hatch Kent UK, (Monday, 01 April 2002), Top British F3 driver Robbie Kerr finished 3rd in the second round of the 2002 British F3 Championship after his historic win in round one.

Kerr, on the outside of the front row, was able to perform one of his trademark demon starts and took the lead of the race in the first turn however this was for nothing as a massive crash further back on the grid between Mohamed Fairuz and Fabio Carbone caused the race to be stopped on the first lap.

Unfortunately for Robbie, the wrecked car of Fairuz came to rest on the pole position slot. For the restart the championship and pole sitter James Courtney was allowed to start in the middle of the track rather than the allocated slot.

Courtney's starting position left a massive gap on the inside, which was maximised by Bruce Jouanny who took the lead into paddock hill bend on the restart. Kerr was unable to find a way round Courtney and slotted into 3rd where he remained stuck to the Australians gearbox until the chequered flag.

"It was a shame that we had the restart" said Kerr, "I am upset not to have had a double win on my Championship Class Debut however that is racing."

Kerr leads the championship with Courtney with both drivers on 32 points.
