Danilo Dirani qualified in pole position for the fourth round of the championship by just fourteen hundredths of a second from Australian driver Will Power. Nelson Piquet qualified a further six hundredths of a second behind to line up in third.
Will Davison led the session early by setting his fastest lap of 1m 15.733s in the first few minutes before James Rossiter, the pole-sitter for round three, responded with a 1m 15.481s lap, a time that he could not get anywhere near for the rest of the session and ultimately qualified in fifth place.
Power’s times quickly lowered and soon he was fastest with a 1m 15.207s lap. He backed off and returned to the pits for the rest of the session. Piquet then went second with a 1m 15.267s lap early on into the first of two fast stints towards the end of the session.
Dirani responded straight away with a 1m 15.271s lap to go third just four thousandths of a second behind Piquet but he went faster on the next lap with a 1m 15.193s lap to leap ahead of both Power and Piquet and he remained fastest for the rest of the session.
Lucas Di Grassi put in a strong 1m 15.333s lap at the close of the session to move up a couple of places to fourth while no-one else was able to improve on their times. At the end of the session the top four drivers were all covered by less than two tenths of a second over the 2.249 mile lap.
Earlier today, James Rossiter claimed the pole for the first race at Silverstone.
