Holcomb, Carrasco among Spring Nationals sportsman winners
BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Roy Holcomb topped Glen Hedrick in IHRA Snap-on Tools Drag Racing Series Top Dragster competition during Sunday's Prolong Super Lubricants Spring Nationals at Bristol Dragway. Holcomb, of Harrison, Mich. ran 7.298 seconds at 174.44 miles per hour, to Hedrick's 7.453, 176.49.
Flint, Mich.'s Ernie Carrasco claimed the Top Sportsman category victory over Ken Langlois, of Saline, Mich. Carraso drove his '95 Camaro to a run of 7.273, 186.74, while runnerup Langlois went 7.527, 182.21.
In Top Dragster Quick 8 competition, Pasadena, Md.'s Larry Plummer claimed the win over T.J. Lefter of Indianapolis. Plummer covered the quartermile in 6.739, 200.02 in his 1996 Chassis Craft dragster.
Other sportsman winners included: Eddie Kerchevall, Genoa, Ohio (Modified); Britt Cummings, Hammond, La. (Quick Rod); Rodney Benson, Scott City, Mo. (Super Rod); R.L. Koontz, Sarasota, Fla. (Hot Rod); Tracy Robbins, Youngsville, N.C. (Super Stock); and Randall Campbell, Gray, Ky. (Stock).
Professional category winners of the 33rd annual Prolong Super Lubricants Spring Nationals presented by Parts Pro included Doug Herbert (Top Fuel), Angelo Alesci (Pro Stock), Rickie Smith (Pro Modified), and Scott Weis (Alcohol Funny Car).
