EPPING, NH-- Just qualifying for the quickest and fastest Pro Stock field in the history of the IHRA is an accomplishment in its ownright. John Montecalvo can't help but feel a sense of pride knowing that he was a part of history. Nevermind the fact that he fell in the first round, the Car Craft Magazine All-Star nominee was a part of history.
Montecalvo wheeled the Citgo sponsored Chevrolet Monte Carlo to a 6.750/204.76, which effectively slipped him into the 12th spot. Because of his qualifying position, he was paired opposite Southern Nationals titlist Dan Seamon, Jr. . Knowing that he had to push on the starting line to overcome a performance defecit, the New York based driver outreacted his foe. However, at the finsih line, Seamon took the win light by a 6.720/206.86 margin over his 6.784/202.00.
"We feel like we had a good chance to win here," explained Montecalvo. "The car worked fine and did pretty much what we asked of it. Dan is a good driver and when you run him, you have to really be on top of your game. There will be better days, I am sure."
