Romine qualifies 3rd at IHRA North American Nationals
EPPING, NH (Sept. 12,1998) -- Reigning IHRA Champion Paul Romine didn't get the top time Saturday at the IHRA North American Nationals at New England Dragway, but he got two solid runs under his belt to work with for Sunday's eliminations.
"Friday we came out and smoked the tires and that's not how we wanted to start the weekend," Romine said. "Today we finally got down the track without smoking the tires. On our first pass it shook and I pedaled, then the (blower) belt came off at a 1000-feet. Tonight we went out for low et, but I had to pedal it to a 4.92. It probably was a wasted run, but we got low et of the night session and we enter eliminations with two smoke-less passes under our belt so we're happy with that."
In round one, Romine will face Top Fuel newcomer Don Lampus. This season Romine is 1-0 against Lampus, defeating him in the semi-finals at the IHRA World Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
