Epping: Shannon Jenkins preview

EPPING, NH. - Two-time Pro Modified World Champion Shannon Jenkins fought his way back to where he felt he always belonged - at the top of the nitrous performance chart. During a Pro Modified exhibition last week in Indianapolis, the veteran driver from Tuscaloosa, Ala., shocked the ranks by becoming the quickest driver among all of the bottle-rockets. He pushed the Mike Castellana 1968 Camaro to a 6.231, 223.62.

If the win at the CARQUEST Empire Nationals in July wasn't enough to convince the competition, this run did it.

"I'd like to think we never left," explained Jenkins. "It was very obvious that we were having problems getting the car to run straight and that prevented us on trying o improve in the horsepower department. Now that we have the car going straight, we can use what we've got."

Don't expect the run to hold for too long.

"I think we have more," explained Jenkins. "We just have to tap into what the car is telling us. I don't think that run will hold for the rest of the season. There are a lot of great nitrous racers out there and it will be a fight to be the first into the 6-teens."

Jenkins will have the opportunity to improve on the history-making run during this weekend at the IHRA Amalie Oil North American Nationals in Epping, NH.
