Darlington International Dragway's Premiere Doorslammer Test Session & Race
January 26, 1998 - DARLINGTON, SC--- Longtime Pro Modified racer and sponsor Roy Singleton stepped up to the proverbial plate and delivered a homerun for Darlington International Dragway. Singleton's Majesty Homes (formerly known as Better Homes) will serve as the title rights sponsor for the third annual, Groundhog Warm-Up to be contested February 17-20. The event will now be known as the Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-up.
Darlington International Dragway GM David Johnson feels that this marketing program will reap rewards for both sides. Johnson says, "Roy Singleton and Majesty Homes have been good to Darlington International Dragway over the years. I hope that we have helped them as much as they've helped us. We feel that the Groundhog Warm-Up and Majesty Homes will be good for each other in the long run."
Explains Singleton, "I know that drag racing is a good investment on any level. We at Majesty Homes have had success in the past with Darlington Dragway and I see no reason to expect any less in the future. I knew that they were going to push this event to the maximum in terms of promotions and like any businessman, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to jump on a successful marketing machine at a cost-effecient price."
Evidently many other companies within the drag racing community have noticed the merits of supporting the Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-up and have offered contingencies to the winning entries in both the Pro Stock and Pro Modified divisions. Johnson plans to announce those entities this week.
The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-up will feature unlimited testing runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the scheduled dates. Drivers are given free testing under the stipulation that they compete in an open race on Saturday. Qualifying for the race will begin with sessions on Saturday at 10 AM and at Noon. Eliminations are scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM
