RADIAC QUALIFIES FOR FINAL ELIMINATIONS

STANTON, MI (August 2, 1998) - You would have thought Mitchell Stott had won the event, and in a sordid way, he did so in his own mind. The veteran Mill Spring, North Carolina driver achieved a personal milestone by just qualifying at the CARQUEST Northern Nationals, which couldn't have come at a better time. He had four previous non-qualifying events going into the Mid-Michigan based event.

"All I can say is that the monkey is now off of my back," explained Stott. "We have fought tooth and nail just to be a part of final eliminations and things never worked in our favor. Fate shined well on us this weekend."

The good news is that Stott made the show. The bad news was the his #16 (6.628/213.13) qualifying effort paired him alongside the pole-sitter Scotty Cannon and his radical 1953 Studebaker. After a lengthy staging duel between the two drivers, Mitchell gambled and left with a brief holeshot. However, at the finish line, Cannon took the win with a 6.48/216.69 over Stott's 6.675/211.59.
