Mike Janis Looking To Make It Three In A Row In IHRA Pro Modified
Elma, NY -- After wins at the last two IHRA National events Mike Janis and his Eaton Automotive/Aeroquip crew are looking to make it three in a row with a win at this weekend's Sunoco World Nationals presented by PPG Automotive Refinish. Janis has been in the finals of the last three races he has attended; taking wins in the last two, Toronto and Martin. A win at the IHRA's premier track could help Janis separate himself from the pack.
Janis is in first place of the IHRA/Hooters Pro Modified points chase. He has 588 points, with Harold Martin in second with 531 and Mike Castellana in third with 435. Since Janis won't receive the 31 bonus points for making all the events, because he did not attend the event held Edmonton he is actually only 26 points ahead of Harold Martin not 57.
"We really need a good showing at Norwalk. There are so many good cars out there. Any one of them can win at any time. Look at Castellana, Jenkins, Harper, and Harold. They are all flying. We need to get some breathing room between us and the guys behind us for me to feel a little more comfortable," said Janis
The Sunoco World Nationals is the IHRA's signature event held at the IHRA's home track, Norwalk Raceway Park, in Norwalk, Ohio. The IHRA is experimenting with a new format. The event will still be four days, however it will begin on Wednesday and end on Saturday. Professional classes will qualify twice on Friday and once Saturday afternoon, with eliminations beginning Saturday around 4pm.
