NORWALK, OH.--- John Long has been creeping up on the points leaders all season and was looking toward great rounds of competition this weekend to improve his standings. With only four races left on the season, Long holds the fourth spot in Super Eliminator. But the IHRA MOPAR PARTS World Nationals would not provide the help Long needed. Dropping a fantastic first round to Terry Munroe, Long must look forward to his next chance on the track.
Long opened qualifying with a 6.593/205.04, which continues to show improvement for the Greg Good-owned dragster. He ended the first session as the 11th quickest. He made a minor improvement during the second session and stepped up with a 6.58/205 mph blast. The veteran motorsports printer stepped up even more during the Night Of Fire session with a 6.529/207.02, which was good enough for the 13th spot. He was scheduled to face Terry Munroe in the first round.
He stepped up in a big way in the first round, but it wasn't enough. Long gave a minor advantage to Munroe at the starting line, but this was an all out drag race. Side by side to the finish line, Long posted a 6.281/212.46 run, but Munroe was able to bump a little more throttle and take the win light on the top end. Long and his Spectra One Motorsports Printing Team plans to resume their championship conquest at the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, NH, September 10-12. Long, along with each Super Eliminator contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of Drag Review. Spectra One Motorsports Printing has developed a reputation for creating some of the most vibrant and attention getting handout cards in motorsports.
