Audi Sport - elite squad at two locations
Teamwork between Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm
27 days until the start of 2006 DTM season
On April 9th, the new DTM season will start at Hockenheim. For Audi, the season opener is practically a "home game" because, located at a distance of less than 60 kilometres from Hockenheim, Audi's Neckarsulm plant is home to part of Audi Sport: the engine department. This is where the 650-hp V12 TDI engine for the R10 sports prototype and the new V8 powerplant for the A4 DTM were created.
The Audi Sport headquarters is located in Ingolstadt, where the majority of the roughly 150-member squad works. From Ingolstadt, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich (55) coordinates the motorsport commitments of AUDI AG and the Lamborghini and SEAT divisions, which are part of the Audi brand group. Since 1993 the native Austrian has been Head of Audi Motorsport and Head of Audi Sport.
Audi Sport is primarily responsible for development and testing of the racing vehicles. Every new racing vehicle is developed at Audi Sport. The connection to AUDI AG's Technical Development ensures the technology transfer from motorsport to production vehicles and vice versa.
In the racing community Audi Sport has the reputation of an "elite squad," which has been guaranteeing the resounding racing exploits of the Audi brand for over 25 years. The concept of developing new racing vehicles "in-house" has proved to be successful, as has the entry of competition vehicles by time-tested partners such as Team Abt Sportsline.
