Opel drivers triumph in Le Mans

Yannick Dalmas and JJ Lehto, both Opel works drivers, were given some holiday to take part in the 24 hours of Le Mans in a McLaren- BMW. The holiday proved worth while taking, as the two returned as the over all winners of this most famous 24 hours race in the world. So the number of Le Mans winners in the Opel team has grown to four with eight victories altogether. Klaus Ludwig (`79, `84 and '85), Yannick Dalmas ('92, '94 and '95), Manuel Reuter (`89) and "rookie" JJ Lehto. There's only one Le Mans winner in the DTM grid, who doesn't drive an Opel: Louis Krages, who succeded in 1985 together with Klaus Ludwig, is driving a Mercedes this year.

Money for Brazilian children

As they did in 1994, all the Mercedes drivers are racing for a good cause at the Norisring. Mercedes is awarding it's drivers with money prizes using a special ratio formula. All the money will be given to the "children of Brazil" association, which is supported not only by Brazilian racing drivers like "Emmo" and Christian Fittipaldi, but by Gerhard Berger too. These prizes are not only offered for good race results, but for Top Qualifying results also. Resulting from this campaign, supported by stickers on the side windows of all Mercedes' competing in DTM, Mercedes succeeded in collecting remarkable 39.000 DM in 1994.

A new face at Alfa Corse 2

A rather surprising driver change has happened at Alfa Corse 2. The white Alfa 155 V6 Ti, normally driven by Stig Amthor, will be raced by Fabrizio Giovanardi this weekend. Giovanardi, normally driver in the Italian Touring Car Championship: "This is really a lot of fun. Compared to this powerful racing car my usual racer feels like a truck. I am really enjoying competing here." But Fabrizio won't be able to enjoy this fun for more than one race. Amthor just agreed not to start at the Norisring in favour of Giovanardi, as he had had some sponsorship problems. In Donington Amthor will be back behind the wheel of his Alfa.
