SPYKER SQUADRON VALENCIA 2-HOUR REPORT
Valencia, 6 May 2007 -- We are almost two hours underway in the second 1000 km race this season. Weather conditions are excellent, lots of sun and a light wind. We have seen a number of incidents on the tight, curvy and very crowded 4 km track but against the predictions from the experts, luckily we have not seen the safety car out on track to intervene in the race.
Jarek Janis started the race at 13:30 CET in the number 85 Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R and came in about 30 minutes ago for a driver change, tires and fuel. Sandor van Es took over and is currently running in 11th position.
Jarek: "We have a lot of understeer and I had to come in much earlier than planned. I had problems with my front tires -- flat spots and they were running hot. Sandor just left the box with new tires -- I really hope these hold. In the end it is still a long race and we will have to wait and see".
Peter van Erp: "We have to be patient and see how the race develops. As Jarek says, we have some issues with the tires. One if his tires wearn out to the canvas and we had to call him in earlier than planned. As the car misses some speed compared to the top teams, the drivers are pushing extra hard to keep the gaps tight. This results in driving close to the limits of our material as we have just seen with our tires. Sandor is out now and just set the quickest [C8 Spyder] lap time with his new tires.
