The Midland Formula 1 Racing team enjoyed excellent testing conditions on its final day of testing at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy, covering more mileage than it had during the previous two days of the test and setting its fastest lap time of the week in the process.

Tiago Monteiro benefited from dry, warm track conditions and the M16's faultless reliability to record a fastest lap time of 1:23.85 - an improvement of 1.04s over the Christijan Albers' best time yesterday, and 1.65s faster than the mark set by Giorgio Mondini on Tuesday.

The team now heads back to its operational base in Silverstone to undertake final preparations on its race package before returning to Monza next week for the Italian Grand Prix.

Dominic Harlow, Chief Race and Test Engineer:

"We were able to cover almost 600 km today, with a full programme that included tyres, aerodynamic components, brakes and set-up testing. Again, we found improvements that translated directly into improved lap times and are confident that we will be continuing our trend of increasing competitiveness at the race here next weekend."

Tiago Monteiro:

"We had a very productive day, going through a lot of test items and covering pretty much everything that we had wanted to. We focused entirely on long runs and didn't do a qualifying simulation, so the times are not as low as they might have been otherwise, which is quite encouraging. But it's very good data for the race, and we're pleased with the 100 laps we were able to put in today. I think we're in good shape heading into next weekend."
