Minardi Valenica Wednesday testing notes 2002-02-06

Valencia, Spain, Wednesday, February 6, 2002 - The KL Minardi Asiatech duo of Alex Yoong and Mark Webber continued with accumulating test miles during the second day in Valencia despite a minor gearbox problems for Webber's PS02.

Webber concentrated in building up a good bank of data for the new car and had progressed to a time of 1 min 17.030 secs.

Yoong did long simulation runs with high fuel loads with last year's car to finish the day with 1 min 19.388 secs.

It is not confirmed yet whether Yoong will take over the PS02 from Webber tomorrow (Thursday) but he is expected to drive the new car on day four on Friday.

“We had a small gearbox problem at the start of the day, which cost us some time in the garage while it was sorted out, but then this afternoon, we did four or five long runs, encouragingly putting in some 40 laps without any significant issues. We are now beginning to build up a good bank of data that will help us to understand the new car and assist us at the Barcelona test next week. There is definitely a lot more to come.”

“Today, the priority was just to make as many long runs as possible, so we filled the car with race fuel loads and went for it. We managed nearly 60 laps in total. Tomorrow, we’ll continue with some race-simulation runs and just work on piling up consistent laps.”
