Jean Alesi

"I went out at the start of the session to establish an early 'security'
lap time, not knowing how the track would change. Unfortunately, I
would never have guessed then that I would not be able to go out again
at a good time. The track improved and it became cooler at the end of
the session when we certainly would have been able to improve the
time. I was delayed in the pits by a hydraulics problem, which ended my
hopes. Now we have to do our best to prepare for the race and set the car
up as well as we can in the way in which the free session showed us."
Nick Heidfeld

"I am obviously very frustrated by this session and all the more as
this morning's practice was quite good. We have been able to find a
better set-up and it went as planned during the free practice. In
qualifying, after two outings I had an engine problem, and I just had time
to come back to the pits. The team started to prepare the t-car, which was
set up for Jean, but we were not able to change everything. Unfortunately,
Jean had also a problem, but there were only five minutes left, and we
decided I would keep the T-car for a last outing. In these conditions, I
have been unable to improve my time."
Alain Prost
"Evidently we deserved better positions than those we have on the grid. We
had reliability problems at the worst possible moment, with Nick's engine
and with the hydraulics for Jean. It was difficult to extricate ourselves
from the group of 12 cars all of which have qualified within a second.
Furthermore, we have not used more than one set of tyres in good
conditions. In the circumstances, it was impossible to do better.
The only thing to do is to work for constant reliability and to hope to
gain some places in qualifying."
