Forced to settle for second after driving the last four laps with gear stuck in fifth!

KL Minardi Asiatech driver Alex Yoong just missed out on winning the 3rd Historic Grand Prix of Monaco after gearbox problems forced him to settle for second. He had led for nine laps of the ten lap race.

"I had a good start and was leading the race up to the halfway mark when the safety car came out for the marshals to clear a car. Inexplicably I couldn't get out of fifth gear while touring around behind the safety car. I tried my best to stay in front after the safety car pulled in with four laps to run but couldn't do anything to stop being taken by the Tyrell in the last lap." said Yoong.

The race was won by Martin Stretton in a Tyrell 1977 P34 with Yoong second in his Lotus 1971 five seconds adrift and Christopher Perkins third in a Surtees 1974 TS16 third.

"It had been a fantastic weekend for me. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I had the chance to soak in all the fantastic atmosphere of what the prelude to the Monaco Grand Prix next week might be." added Yoong. "The two days had gone well as I managed to put in 15 laps in the wet yesterday and 10 race laps in the dry today. The experience will certainly come to good use next week. I like to thank the team for giving me the chance for the ride. They had been terrific."
