Filippi the fastest, waiting for Fisichella

The taking of the first CSAI F3000 Trophy title did not prevent Filippi from also wanting and getting the fastest time (1'25"986) in this morning qualifying session, ahead of Ricci and Janis. Filippi, waiting for his team owner Giancarlo Fisichella, who should be here in Misano this afternoon, was with the backmarkers for the greatest part of the session, only to give his best during the last stages of qualifying by setting the fastest time. Good session for Vilander and Ciompi, fourth and fifth respectively, with Ciompi experiencing a problem with his suspensions, after touching with the Czech Janis. Sixth fastest time for Lanceri, ahead of Caceres, Danner and Gattuso, first of the Light category. After them De Villota, Solieri, the Chinese Ma, Chiminelli and De Magryes.

Commentary: Vilander, Chiminelli, the Chinese Quinghua Ma and Caceres are the first to take to the track. Ciompi is the highlight of the first part of the qualifying session with a time of 1'31"179 in front of Danner, Vilander and Caceres. Janis, 16 minutes before the end of the session, takes the lead (1'30"362), while Filippi takes second place. Behind the Czech driver of the Macon team, the two Fisichella Motorsport drivers and Danner, De Villota, Gattuso, Vilander, Solieri e Caceres.

Then Ricci and Lanceri take to the track and, on his second lap, the Italian driver of Astromega has already set the third best time, whichis immediately beaten by Vilander. 10 minutes from the end of the session, the Tuscan driver of the Fisichella Motorsport's team sets the fastest time with a 1'28"026 lap, but Vilander is close. He too set a time under the one minute twenty nine mark, while his team mate Caceres sets the fifth time ahead of Filippi.

The F3000 Italia champion stays calm until 5 minutes from the chequered flag, when Filippi starts pushing setting an excellent 1'27"740 time, which gives him the provisional pole but that is soon beaten by the Finn Vilander. Filippi answers back immediately and sets a 1'25"986 time, unbeatable for everybody. In the last seconds of the qualifying session, Ricci and Janis get into second and third place beating the Finn of Gp Racing.
