The FIA F3000 International Championship heads to the longest track on the calendar, the demanding Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, for the final round of the series. Nordic Racing head to the Ardennes region looking to end their season on a high, with a podium finish the least that they hope for.
Team Principal Derek Mower said: "This is the last race of the year and we must set our sights high. We need both our drivers, Kevin (McGarrity) and Justin (Wilson) to qualify as near to the front as possible, if not on it. Justin showed that this is possible in Hungary two weeks ago when he held pole in the second qualifying session, missing out to Junqueira in the final moments. Still, he put his Lola on the front row of the grid for us and, despite getting too much wheelspin at the start, raced all the way to the flag. A win at Spa would place us 3rd in the teams championship (as long as the mysap.com team fail to score any points), so this must be our aim this weekend."
Spa is a daunting circuit, regarded by many drivers to be the hardest, yet most enjoyable, of all the circuits raced, both in Formula One and Formula 3000. The circuit is a combination of fast corners, long straights and a tight chicane, providing the longest lap of the season. The race is always full of drama, especially at the first corner, La Source, or through the ultra-fast Eau Rouge. Adding to the challenging nature of the track is the weather conditions, which can range from bright sunshine to heavy rain, all within the space of one lap.
The race shall be shown live on EUROSPORT at 15:00hrs (cet), Sat 26th.
