Mission accomplished for Asia Racing Team's Paul Lau

Paul Lau has completed his return to Formula BMW Pacific this weekend, taking Asia Racing Team's car to a 19th place in both Singapore Grand Prix's races.

With two superb races, run under very different track conditions on a highly-challenging street circuit, Paul Lau accomplished the mission of finishing both races at Marina Bay circuit. Lau used the single Free Practice session to become comfortable to the car handling and his confidence grew as his lap times came down, qualifying in 21st.

As the lights went out for the start of Race 1, the Hong Kong racing driver and celebrity overtook two opponents. After the good getaway, and following the team orders, Lau took a conservative approach, crossing the finish line in 19th. In Race 2 Lau did another clean start, escaping superbly without a scratch to the first corner incident. A clear run strategy paid off with a 19th place in the end.

Speaking about his race weekend, Paul Lau said, "It's really long since I took part of a race. I am happy to be back racing, which wasn't easy at the beginning of the first session. But I felt more and more comfortable in the cockpit and could learn a lot and get more experience with the help of my team. It was not an easy weekend but I enjoyed myself at the track. I am looking forward to do more races in Formula BMW Pacific."

Race Engineer Duarte Alves, added, "Paul didn't race or practice since 2009 Macau Grand Prix but still he did what he could do and put some respectable lap times. Of course he didn't have the speed to get in the mix for points but we can't expect miracles at this level. In the end of the day we are happy with his improvement during the weekend."

The Formula BMW Pacific goes to Japan next month for two rounds at the Okayama International Circuit on October 28-30.
