Battersea Park track concerns delay second practice

Drivers and officials have been discussing how the corner can be modified to avoid incidents at the turn one bump, one of which saw Jerome D’Ambrosio break his rear suspension in the first free practice session this morning.

“They need to do something because the damage is significant, it broke the suspension and snapped the pushrod,” said the Belgian. “The track is nice but this bump is a major issue for the cars. Nobody will finish if we do not change things.”

Officials are looking at various solutions including inserting extra tech-pro safety barrier to adjust the line in to the corner.

Motorsport.com understands that officials are also considering having the area under a permanent yellow flag during the races.

Salvador Duran also had an excursion after hitting the turn one bump this morning and while praising the challenge the circuit offers, also told Motorsport.com of his concerns.

“My floor is destroyed, it is all going to be about survival if it is not changed somehow,” said the Mexican.

“When you brake, you hit the ground and lose all of the aero. Even the front wings are touching and we have taped the underside to help. It is so easy to crash there or for the car to break.

"It is a shame because the track is good, just this area is bad for us.”
