London ePrix: Standing start for final race

A section of track at the fast left-hander has been resurfaced and ground-in after concerns raised by drivers yesterday after the first practice session.

Formula E Championship event manage Fred Espinos told Motorsport.com that "the changes have been met with approval by the drivers; it was a good solution.

"We opened the tarmac, the grinding machine smoothed it and then the new [tarmac] went down.”

“On the road we could make these changes, it was only on the trees, surrounding we cannot touch.

"The start procedure will be normal now so we will have a standing start, so hopefully we can have a nice end to the title battle.”

Drivers give change the thumbs up

Jerome D’Ambrosio, whose practice one rear suspension breakage triggered the changes to the track, expressed satisfaction with the work carried out on Turn One.

“They have done a good job, it is much better now and obviously it makes the corner more what it should be, a challenge,” said the Belgian.

“We want to do a standing start and this is what the fans want to see. It is the last race and there is a big title fight, so the extra drama will be good.”

Karun Chandhok also voiced his satisfaction with the work carried out and thinks that the change will only make the lap times come down further ahead of the race this afternoon.

“The approach now to the slower left hand corner is much quicker now and makes the entry and exit more of a challenge to judge the braking,” said the Mahindra driver.

“There is a smaller bump still there and also one at Turn 8 but it is a really good circuit to drive, but not necessarily to race on because it is so narrow.

"But it is great fun and seeing the fans around the track gives us a great buzz. The qualifying times will obviously be much faster than yesterday.”
