STEVE EVANS 1943 - 2000
It is with great sadness that Irwindale Speedway acknowledges the death of a good friend, Steve Evans. A real motorsports pioneer and a person who toiled ceaselessly in and for the sport.
Much like another personality who passed away only one day earlier, Steve Allen, Evans was a true (racing) renaissance man, equally at home at the big end of a drag strip as he was calling the action at the "Sippy Hole" at a swamp buggy race, or patrolling the pits at the last 24 hours of LeMans.
Most of all, Steve will be remembered by those who knew him as a guy who simply lived and breathed racing ... Any kind, anywhere, anytime. Just give him a race track, a couple of cars, and a microphone and he would make the scene come to life with his mellifluous baritone drawl and complete command of the situation.
Steve will be very missed by many people in the sport, we at Irwindale Speedway are among them. Our condolences and love go out to his family. -DS
