RADISICH AT KILLARNEY
World Touring Car Champion Paul Radisich set the pace for others to follow in the opening practice sessions for the second round of the South Africa Touring Car Championship at Cape Town's Killarney circuit.
Radisich, in South Africa to assist with the setup of the two local ex-Rouse Ford Mondeos will drive both heats in the Sasol Ford Mondeo normally driven by former multiple SA Rally Champion Sarel van der Merwe. Van der Merwe will drive the second Sasol-backed Mondeo usually reserved for Ben Morgenrood - the latter having only just returned from the US where he competed in the Daytona 24-hr last weekend.
Both the Mondeos suffered from fuel pressure problems at the first outing of the season at Kyalami a few weeks back - investigation revealing the intense heat in South Africa was vaporising the fuel in the return pipe from the engine.
Even with this problem Van der Merwe managed the third fastest race lap at the Kyalami meeting which was dominated by the two works Opel Vectras.
However, with guidance from Radisich both he and Van der Merwe were significantly quicker than the Vectras in the early practice sessions.
