Jean-Pierre Malcher (F) Wins Again in Monaco

Monaco. Jean-Pierre Malcher (F, Oberbayern Motorsport) saw the chequered flag as clear winner of round two of the Porsche-Pirelli-SuperCup in the streets of Monaco. Malcher had taken up the race from pole position, led the field into the first corner and did not relinquish first place over the 16 lap sprint. This was Malcher's second win here - the last time was in 1995 where he became series champion, as well.

Behind Malcher the rest of the field experienced tough duelling on the dry streets. Ex-Formula 1 pilot Jean-Pierre Jarier (F, DDO) and Germany's Horst Farnbacher battled from half distance for second place with Farnbacher finally surging ahead in the penultimate round after hard negotiations with Jarier. Oliver Mathai (D, Walker Gillet-Manthey Racing) performed consistently, and was rewarded with a third placing after starting from sixth on the grid.

Bruno Corradi from Italy (MAC Racing) finished the sprint race fourth, once again demonstrating high form after placing sixth in Imola. Patrick Simon (D, Oberbayern Motorsport) arrived and left Monaco leading the points' table. Despite technical problems, the 22-year-old - youngest starter in the world's fastest marques cup - secured fifth. Ex-Formula 1 driver Jacques Laffite (F, Kadach Tuning) spun at high speed and was rammed by Toine Oosterbosch (NL, Farnbacher Motorsport). Both pilots were uninjured but the cars were destroyed. Frenchman Dominique Dupuy (DDO) again demonstrated his capabilities in Porsche cars finishing this difficult race sixth out of just 17 remaining participants from 26 starters. Paul Belmondo (F, Gosselin Competition), a regular starter in GT races, took eighth place.

Both RTL-VIP drivers impressed the spectators with fine performance in unfamiliar Porsche 911 sportscars. Ex-Formula 1 pilot Ricardo Rosset was seventh, and rally driver Jean-Pierre Richelmi from Monaco claimed tenth in the streets of the tiny principality. Tyrrell Formula 1 test-driver Toranosuke Takagi from Japan (Kadach Tuning) experienced a big moment in his first Porsche race when his 911 spun at extreme speed. Miraculously Takagi's car remained unscathed and crossed the finish line eleventh.
