Margraf Racing Successfully Shakes Down New Grand Am Riley-Pontiac

Auburn CA (September 30, 2004)-Margraf Racing, the newest member of the Grand American Daytona Prototype family, successfully took delivery of its Pontiac-Riley Mark 11 at Putnam Park Raceway on September 6. With help from Riley Technologies and additional assistance from current Daytona Prototype driver, Mike Borkowski, the Margraf team logged over 250 trouble- free miles in their initial exposure into Daytona prototypes. The Riley- Pontiac performed flawlessly for two days in the late summer Indiana heat.

Mike Borkowski was invaluable in his assistance to Margaf Racing and its driver George Nolte. Borkowski, currently driving for Paul Mears in the Mears Motor Coach Riley-Pontiac and second in last year's driver's standings, has developed a reputation for being a knowledgeable and technical test driver. His experience with four different chassis and engine combinations proved invaluable. He and Paul Mears are currently racing the same engine and chassis combination. "I have always enjoyed the technological challenges of testing and the development of a car and team. I felt that the testing went very well and Margraf Racing is well on its way to be a positive addition to the continually growing GrandAm Daytona Prototype ranks. The car ran perfectly for the two days and George Nolte did an excellent job getting up to speed," said Borkowski.

"We thank Paul Mears for lending Mike to us for a few days. Having him there really steepened our learning curve and helped both our team and George progress more quickly, " said Bill Margraf. "We are still looking for a driver to partner George for the last Rolex Daytona Prototype race of the season at California Speedway on October30, so it was imperative that we quickly get a baseline established for future tests."
