FAIETA LOOKS TO REPEAT MID-OHIO VICTORY AND CLOSE POINT GAP
BRASELTON, Ga. July 15 -- Bob Faieta, Tujunga, Calif., will use his 2007 experience at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to try to close the point gap Dino Steiner, Wehingen, Germany, has over him when the IMSA Challenge by Michelin drivers take the track at the Acura Sports Car Challenge of Mid-Ohio this week.
Last year Faieta, the 2007 series champion, won a decisive victory over Tom Pank, Walkersville, Md., at Mid-Ohio. Faieta was behind in points going into this race and was able to turn around his season with a victory.
"My concern now is catching Dino," Faieta said. "I think we'll be able to catch him. I like the track. It's a good, technical track."
Faieta started his climb back to the top of the standings with a Platinum Cup victory in round six at Montreal in June. Fellow competitor Mark Webber, Los Angeles, Calif. and AASCO Motorsports supported Faieta's trip to Canada.
Faieta and Steiner won't be the only two drivers concentrating on the point battle. Tony Rivera has won every race this year in Gold Cup, the class for 2005-2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. Rivera won overall in round six at Montreal in June. Melanie Snow, Pleasant Grove, Utah, trails Rivera by 26 points.
Both races at Mid-Ohio will take place Friday, July 18th. Round seven will be at 8:55 a.m. The green flag will fall on round eight at 1:40 p.m.
