DEMPSEY WINS STAR MAZDA RACE AT VIR

ALTON, Va. (April 27, 2009) -- Peter Dempsey took the lead with two laps remaining and won the second round of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. The race was held at Virginia International Raceway.

Goodyear is the presenting sponsor and exclusive tire provider for the Star Mazda program. The radial tires Goodyear supplies the Series were designed and developed specifically for the Star Mazda Championship cars.

Dempsey beat second finisher Alex Ardoin by a razor-thin margin of .038 of a second. Joel Miller was third, followed by Jorge Goncalvez and Conor Day. Patrick O'Neill won the Expert class for drivers aged 30-44 and Michael Guasch won the Master class for drivers aged 45 and above.

Adam Christodoulou broke a two year-old track qualifying record when he scorched the VIR asphalt with a lap averaging 111.195 mph.

There were 28 starters in the 17-lap race around the 3.27-mile road circuit.
