Ian Lacy Phoenix Review

Ian Lacy of Arcata, Ca., driving for the Stacy Suspension Systems team and sponsored by Schmidbauer Lumber Co., ran a careful final race at Phoenix in November to preserve his points lead. He qualified second by 0.169sec and finished third to clinch the 1998 Star Mazda Championship, as well as winning Rookie of the Year honors. Ian had a very successful first season with 7 wins in 13 races, including 10 pole positions, 7 fastest laps, and 4 track records, all on tracks, except for Laguna Seca, on which he had never raced. Part of his winnings included an Indy Lights test with Brian Stewart Racing in Big Spring, Texas.

Ian began his career with Russell Racing School in June of 1995, winning the USAC/ Formula Russell Challenge series as part of the Mechanics Training Program. In 1996 he won the USAC/Formula Russell Championship and placed third in the Russell Triple Crown. In 1997 he won the Russell Triple Crown and is now an instructor with Russell at Sears Point Raceway.

For 1999, Ian will be a team driver for the DSTP Formula Ford 2000 team owned by Dede Rushton and associated with Steve Cameron and Jim Griffith of Lynx Racing.
