CR Crews disappointed once again.
LEXINGTON OHIO, MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE, USA, May 21- CR Crews once again had a rough ending to what looked to be a stellar race day performance. The 3rd round of the Star Mazda North American Championship sanctioned by IMSA and the American Le Mans Series was held at the Mid Ohio Sports Car course. Crews debuted his new Kodak Easy Share Pro Formula Mazda. Two rounds of practice were hampered by rain. With limited dry weather testing, Crews qualified his car 11th of 46 entries for the race.
When the green flag dropped Crews quickly moved forward. After only five laps, Crews was running in 7th place. Convinced his team, Red Beard Racing had given him a great racecar, he was patient and precise in the positions he overtook. On lap thirteen, entering the Keyhole he was hit directly and squarely from behind on the right rear tire by the number 26 car. The hit took Crews out of the race, while the 26 car continued with just damage to the nose of his car. When the race was completed, Crews was scored a disappointing 44th.
The next round of the Star Mazda North American Championships will be June 11th, in Montreal, Canada. This will be a very special race as it will be a support event for the Canadian Grand Prix and Formula 1. The starting grid for this race will be set by accumulated points to date in the series. This will be a distinct disadvantage for Crews, as his points total to date does not reflect how quick he has been thus far at every race. Crews is looking forward to the opportunity to post a result that will show how fast he has been this year.
