Mid-Ohio: Goodyear Racing race notes

MATOS DOMINATES STAR MAZDA RACE AT MID-OHIO

LEXINGTON, Ohio (May 22, 2005) -- Raphael Matos continued his blazing start to the 2005 season in Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear competition by winning his third consecutive race, this time at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for Star Mazda Racing. The series is rapidly becoming the fastest-growing open-wheel racing series in the United States.

Matos, of Brazil, led every lap of the race. He paced a field of 44 starters after starting on the pole. Matos set a track record in qualifying with a lap of 1 minute, 18.503 seconds.

Anderson Walko Racing teammates Pablo Donoso (Chile) and Robbie Pecorari (Aston, Penn.) followed Matos across the finish line. Marco Andretti, representing the third generation of the famed Andretti racing family, was fourth and Marc Wilkins (Canada) finished fifth.

The next race for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear will be held in Montreal in conjunction with the Canadian Grand Prix Formula One race.
