Madison, Ill. (August 25, 2001) - Eddie Cheever Jr. will start ninth at Sunday's inaugural Indy Racing event at Gateway International Raceway after qualifying was canceled due to rain and wet track conditions. The starting lineup was set by entrant points, in accordance with Indy Racing League rules.
Tomorrow's eleventh round of the 2001 Indy Racing Northern Light Series, the Gateway Indy 250, will be broadcast live on ESPN at 3:00pm EDT.
Eddie Cheever Jr. (on Saturday practice): "This is a very unique circuit. There really are no other tracks that we race on that are similar to Gateway. There are none with straightaways that long and corners that tight. The straightaways are incredibly long and it's a very difficult oval because you have to decelerate so much. Every time you decelerate, you're dramatically affecting the aerodynamic balance of the car. Our car is getting better but it's still too nervous."
