CMP Motorsports driver Ward Imrie goes from 22nd to sixth in Formula Senior final

BARRIE, ONTARIO - Winnipeg racer Ward Imrie's return to karting with CMP Motorsports has been anything but smooth. Last weekend, at the Barrie Grand Prix, round three of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels, the veteran shifter kart pilot powered his way to a sixth place finish after starting the final in 22nd.

"I was going to the front," Imrie said after the final. "We have been fast all year, but little things have kept us from scoring points. It seems like both Frankie [Launi] and I are snake bit this year."

Imrie started off the weekend by putting his CMP mount on the front row, just a scant 0.014 off the pole. "It used to be you worried about tenths when trying to get the pole, now you have to worry about hundredths!" At the start of the pre-final, the kart bogged off the line and Imrie dropped back to 13th. He made his way back to eighth before loosing a chain on the last lap, which left him 22nd - his starting position for the final.

From the moment the lights went off to signal the start of the final, Imrie put on a classic charge to the front. With just a few laps remaining he was in 10th, then on the final lap he passed Robert Wickens to take sixth place - and he was credited with the fastest race lap in the final.

"Finally a result!" Imrie said. "On one hand it is good for the team to help us build momentum, but on the other hand we know we had two karts that should have been on the podium. Things will be different at Sutton."
