St. Eustache, Quebec: Dave Jacombs found trouble this week in the form of a lapped car making a mistake at Autodrome St. Eustache in the running of the AUTOPRO / NAPA 150 on Saturday night. Rain called a halt to the racing action and the event was red flagged on lap 97 with Jacombs posting a 29th place finish.
The #88 Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax Performance Exhaust Taurus lined up for the start of the 150-lap event in 12th and by lap 25 was up to 10th and getting comfortable when on lap 30 disaster struck. Unfortunately for Jacombs the same car that took him out of the running at Delaware pulled out in front of the #88 Speedy Taurus driver and another car after spinning into the infield. The car Jacombs was racing with took evasive action and the resulting crash led to serious front-end damage on the Speedy Taurus race car. While they attempted repairs and came back out onto the track on the lead lap, it was finally deemed that their night was over on lap 41.
Jacombs who has had great runs at this flat 4/10 mile oval, a third in 2000 and a fourth in 2001 said after the race "This is very disappointing for my whole race team but I have nothing but praise for these guys and girls as they worked so hard today. The car was just not right when we got here and they thrashed all day to get me in the top half of the field for the start. We're looking forward to the next race at Mosport in two weeks as we came home with a fourth from there last year."
Podium finishers included former team mate in 1st, #39 Dave Whitlock in the Fast Lane Taurus, 2nd #4 Don Thomson Jr. in the Home Hardware Chevrolet and 3rd #17 D. J. Kennington in the Castrol Intrepid.
The #88 Speedy Auto Service/Dynomax/FAG Automotive Taurus and members of the race team will be attending the FAG Automotive company barbecue on Friday June 14th prior to the Mosport Road Course event on June 15/16.
