Yates donates last Allison car
TALLADEGA, Ala. (Oct. 28, 1997) The final Davey Allison car still remaining at Robert Yates Racing has been donated to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame by owner Robert Yates. Yates made the gesture in honor of Allison's induction into the Hall of Fame next April 23. This is the fourth in a series of cars built by Yates for Davey Allison, and donated to the Motorsports Hall of Fame in honor of his accomplishments. The four cars give IMHOF the most extensive collection of Davey Allison's cars in the world. "This is a tremendous addition to our museum, and will certainly enhance Davey's induction into the Hall of Fame," said Don Naman, IMHOF Executive Director. "Robert Yates has been extremely generous to us, and we certainly do appreciate it. The value of these four Davey Allison cars is incredible, and will only increase as time goes by." Nicknamed "Allison" by the team, it was part of the Yates stable of cars from July of 1991, until it was retired after the spring race at Bristol in 1992. "Allison" won the ACDelco 500 at Rockingham on October 21, 1991, and finished second at the next Rockingham race, the GM Goodwrench 500, on March 1, 1992. It started on the front row at both Dover and North Wilkesboro in September of 1991, taking the outside pole in both of those events. It is the only red-lettered No. 28 that Yates ever built for Allison.
