Well, here it is....a Cupless Weekend. But, since I've gotta have something to write about, I've dug into my database for the following numbers.
Here are the Top-30 in points after Race #18 at Pocono, with the number of races since their last win, last Top-5 finish, & last Top-10.
Driver Name (Point Position) Last Win Last Top-5 Last Top-10 ---------------------------- -------- ---------- ----------- Dale Jarrett (4) 0 0 0 Jeff Burton (5) 1 0 0 John Andretti (22) 2 2 2 Jeff Gordon (1) 3 0 0 Ernie Irvan (15) 4 4 2 Ricky Rudd (8) 6 3 1 Mark Martin (2) 8 0 0 Rusty Wallace (14) 15 2 2 Bobby Labonte (7) 18 3 2 Bobby Hamilton (21) 19 10 10 Terry Labonte (3) 21 2 1 Geoff Bodine (30) 27 13 1 Mike Skinner (27) 33* 33** 0 Sterling Marlin (20) 34 2 2 Dale Earnhardt (6) 45 2 2 Ward Burton (23) 47 45 9 Johnny Benson (13) 48* 32 4 Kyle Petty (18) 64 6 0 Ricky Craven (26) 79* 14 3 Bill Elliott (11) 81 4 0 Jimmy Spencer (17) 89 3 0 Steve Grissom (28) 89* 1 1 Jeremy Mayfield (9) 96* 5 0 Morgan Shepherd (29) 136 13 6 Darrell Waltrip (16) 149 9 5 Ken Schrader (19) 188 26 6 Ted Musgrave (10) 202* 0 0 Derrike Cope (25) 212 47 4 Brett Bodine (24) 219 91 9 Michael Waltrip (12) 348* 40 6
* - Career Non-Winner ** - No Career Top-5's
Well, there are certainly some numbers there that jump right out at you. 4 of the Top-13 in the current Point Standings are career non-winners. Brett Bodine hasn't had a Top-5 in almost 3 years. For Ward Burton, he's only scored 1 Top-5 since his lone victory....and that was 2 races later. Bill Elliott's long losing streak doesn't get the publicity that Earnhardt's does, but that number (81) is pretty large. Bobby Hamilton's slump has made him the only driver in the Top-30 without a Top-10 finish in the last 10 races.
So, feel free to use these numbers to razz your friends (G). These come from my own database with some validity checks with NASCAR.com, so let me know if you find any discrepancies....I'll blame them on NASCAR (G).
