BUSCH: Phoenix Ken Schrader Notes

SCHRADER HOPES TO ADD INAGURAL BUSCH SERIES RACE TO HIS LIST OF VICTORIES AT PIR

Ken Schrader will have a bit of an edge over the rest of the Busch Series field when the series competes at Phoenix International Raceway on November 6. After all, Schrader is the winningest driver ever in the history of the track. He has nine victories at the one-mile oval with two wins coming in the Southwest Tour, four wins in USAC Midget and three wins in USAC Silver Crown.

"I love racing at Phoenix," said Schrader. "I like the town and I like the track. I don't typically like flat tracks, but I have had a lot of success at Phoenix in several different divisions, and I enjoy racing there. Now, I just need to work on winning a Busch race and Winston Cup race there. I've qualified well there in the past in Winston Cup and I know the track pretty well, so hopefully we will have a good run in both the races this weekend."

SCHRADER ENDS WEST COAST STINT AT PHOENIX, ARIZ.

Over the last several days, Schrader has spent time on the West Coast. He arrived in Fontana, Calif. on October 26 to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at California Speedway in the No. 52 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet. He qualified 11th for the truck race and was running 5th before he was involved in an accident that forced him to retire from the race. Following the truck race, he headed to Las Vegas for the SEMA show, an automotive after-market trade show. Now, he takes off for Phoenix for the inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race and Winston Cup Series race.

SCHRADER HAS QUALIFYING SUCCESS AT PHOENIX

Last year, Ken Schrader was the pole sitter for the NASCAR Winston Cup race at Phoenix when he covered the one-mile oval in 27.432-seconds at 131.234 mph. In 11 Winston Cup starts, he has started ninth or better nine times. Schrader had his first Winston Cup pole at the track in 1989.

OAKWOOD TEAM OPTIMISTIC

"With Schrader's success at PIR, we are really excited about this weekend," said crew chief Chris Carrier. "We are taking one of his favorite cars to one of his favorite tracks. We are taking the same car we finished sixth with at the spring Richmond race earlier this year."
