Stacy Compton's performance at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) last season was more than impressive with Team RC picking up their first Bud Pole Award in the spring race (April 19) with a top qualifying time of 28.214, merely .32 of a second off the track record. Compton lead the first 37 laps, winning the MCI Fast Pace Award for his lap time of 29.195 seconds on lap 10. He finished third behind race winner Ron Hornaday and second place finisher Jack Sprague. In the fall, Compton qualified third and finished eighth in the special edition Cherry RC truck here at PIR.
Compton's success at PIR might be contributed to his reputation for tire maintenance. Compton, a late model veteran from the Winston Racing Series is notorious for getting the most of slick tires. "When tires start to wear out, he's the fastest on the track" noted shock specialist Stacy Johnson. " Look at No. 86's lap times at Homestead last week. He is the king of slick tracks." Compton finished third last week and was charging up front in last ten laps at Homestead.
Compton's No. 86 RC Dodge will have AM/PMPublix Supermarkets as an associate sponsor for this weekend's race. RC is running in-store promotions with Publix throughout the month of March and the No. 86 red, white and blue show truck has been on display at 12 Publix stores in South Florida.
