BRASELTON, Ga. (May 31, 2003) - Despite securing his second consecutive NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series fast qualifier award in time trials at Lanier National Speedway, 24-year old Peter Petropoulos was forced to start sixth after the inversion process was completed to finalize the starting lineup for Saturday evening's pro late model feature.

"Qualifying first for two weeks in a row means a lot," said Petropoulos. "I guess rolling the dice kind of started things off sour because I was back there in sixth."

Despite having the fastest car in the field, Petropoulos' strategy was to be patient and move forward quickly while starting on the outside of row three.

"Get down, get a hole, and race clean," Petropoulos said of his prerace plan. "Then make our way to the front."

Unfortunately, a bump from behind on lap three sent Petropoulos' No. 28 Battle Builders, Inc. Chevrolet into a spin in turn four. Seconds later, the Chevy's rear was shortened considerably after being tagged by another competitor.

"We had just passed the 52 car and evidently he didn't like it," said Petropoulos. "So, he took us out."

Left with a 13th-place finish and a torn up car, the Flowery Branch, Ga. driver said the Chevrolet will be repaired but he and his team will take a hard look at their upcoming itinerary as they continue to compete in the two-barrel late model classification.

"We're probably going to move around some and race at different tracks to get some experience as a team travelling," Petropoulos said. "I know next year we're going to run eight ASA races."
