SES: Nashville Starting Grid

Gill Leads Starting Field for Greased Lightning 400 Nashville, Tenn. - Dalton, Ga.'s Bobby Gill grabbed the Bud Pole position for Sunday's $133,010 Greased Lightning 400, the 18th race on the 19-race Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring, schedule. The driver of the PGT Windows & Doors/Vinyl-Tech Chevrolet toured the 0.596-mile oval in a time of 18.658 seconds at an average speed of 114.996 mph. It was Gill's first Bud Pole of 1998, and sixth of his career.

The top 30 cars earned starting spots based on qualifying times from Friday afternoon's two-lap time trials. Positions 31-34 represent provisional starting positions for drivers in the top 30 point positions in the Slim Jim All Pro Series. The most notable driver to earn a starting position based on points was point leader Freddie Query. Query, last year's Bud Pole Award winner, couldn't get a good grip on the hot, slick track thus being forced to take a provisional. David Reutimann, Trent Owens and Josh Clemons also were forced to take provisionals.

Robert Burroughs, Dennis Schoenfeld, Ronnie Sanders and Darrell Brown earned starting positions 35-38 respectively based on their finishes in the Last Chance Qualifying races. Ronnie Jones and Rick Roller round out the 40-car starting field. The 39th and 40th starting positions were awarded to Jones and Roller for being the next two fastest drivers to not earn a starting position through the Last Chance Qualifying races.

The Greased Lightning 400 will get the green flag at 1:00 p.m. CDT and will be broadcast live on The Nashville Network.
