CHUCK HOSSFELD IS FASTEST UNDER THE LIGHTS AT MARTINSVILLE

Martinsville, Va. (Sept. 2, 2005) - Chuck Hossfeld of Buffalo, N.Y. earned his second Bud Pole Award of the 2005 season by setting fast time on Friday night for Saturday's Made in America Whelen 300 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Martinsville Speedway. Hossfeld toured the .526 mile oval in 18.940 seconds for an average speed of 99.979 mph.

Eric Beers of Northampton, Pa. was second fastest with a speed of 99.355 mph. Current point leader Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. was third fastest with a speed of 99.266 mph. Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. and John Blewett, III of Howell, N.J. rounded out the Top-5 in qualifying.

The Top-8 qualifiers drew for their starting position after qualifying. Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn. picked the number one starting position. Hossfeld will join Christopher on the front row. Doug Coby of Milford, Conn. will start third, and Beers will start fourth. Hirschman picked the 7th starting position.

The fastest 20 drivers in locked in a starting position for Saturday's race. Eight drivers: Mike Stefanik, Tyler Haydt, Gregg Shivers, Renee Dupuis, Kevin Konopka, Burt Myers, Michael Clifton and Tim Brown all received provisional starting positions. The final 15 positions will be determined in a 50 lap qualifying race scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The 250 lap feature will start at approximately 8:30 p.m.
