BATON ROUGE, La- Federal Mogul Dragster points leader Jay Meyer won his fourth straight Division 4 race , in as many races, at last weekend's divisional at State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Meyer defeated recent O'Reilly Nationals runner-up Troy Buff in the final, running 5.629/248.96 to Buff's trailing 5.713/247.72, the quickest run of the weekend in the right lane.
Meyer virtually clinched the division championship with the win, the only two drivers left in contention mathematically, Buff and Shelly Howard must win the two remaining Division 4 races in Hallsville, Texas and Noble, Oklahoma, but also must pick up two out of division wins as well. If Meyer makes it as far the finals, he will clinch the Division 4 championship. If Buff or Howard does not make it to the finals, Meyer will clinch as well.
Meyer not only virtually clinched the division title, but edged out Buff for a spot on the TRW All-star team. If Buff won in the finals, he would have beat Meyer by one point in the TRW standings.
Meyer said, "We walked a tight rope all weekend, it was such a fine line keeping it on the edge to run the numbers on this tricky racetrack. It was pretty nerve-racking. Luckily we had lane choice, that right lane was pretty bad. Thanks to Tom [Conway-tuning consultant], and the crew, we are back in the winner's circle."
Meyer's next stop will be at Hallsville Raceway in Hallsville, Texas for the fifth stop on the Division 4 tour, where he will be looking to wrap up his second Division 4 crown, which he last won in 1986.
"We hope to win in Hallsville, that way we will have won five divisionals on the year [you can only claim five], and can concentrate on making the national events," said Meyer.
