RaceRedi Pontiac Posts Opening Day Best of 6.697 Seconds
HOUSTON, Texas, March 28, 2008 -- The good qualifying runs Justin Humphreys and his RaceRedi Motorsports team expected Friday musts wait until Saturday following the opening round of the O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.
Humphreys' best quarter-mile lap of 6.697 seconds (at 2-07.08 mph) came on his first try on a tricky track that had crew chiefs shaking their heads. On his second run, Humphreys didn't get far off the starting line before the tires lost traction and the car moved left and right, forcing him to abort the run. This is just the second race on the team's Pontiac GXP.
"We just blew the tires off," Humphreys said, "and we don't know why. We'll be fine on Saturday (for the final two qualifying attempts). We just have something biting us. Bob (Glidden, crew chief) and Richard (Maskin, engine builder) will go back to basics and we should run better."
